It’s morning, somewhere in the western rockies of Alberta. It's a beautiful bluebird day, with barn swallows darting through the air, and dirt squirrels whistling a sweet tune. The murmur of a lonesome train whispers in the distance. As the object fast approaches you’re soon to realize.. that’s no train! It’s a beat-down black camper van.. and it’s headed your way! You turn to run, but slip on some elk shit. The driver of the badass rig locks up the brakes, pulls a wicked, right, sideways skid, and stops 2 ft in front of you. The door slides open, and someone yells “GET IN THE VAN!!”. Hmmm... “Where are we going?” you reply, and the same voice says “Just get in the back...”. You immediately think to yourself that there’s no way in hell you’re getting in that thing. Until you notice a sound... a banjo, an old guitar, voices in harmony, and all of a sudden your world makes perfect sense. Time to get in the van…..
Capturing the true spirit of days gone by in a mason jar, this 3-piece string-band is delivering its own brand of folk music down from the mountains of Western Canada. Inspiring music lovers of all ages to get up and dance by breaking the molds of tradition and blending old-time clawhammer banjo, fine whiskey vocal harmonies, enkindling melodies, and tireless rhythms, they fearlessly sing songs of the Bible, the bottle, and everything in between.
"Athabasca Barnburner is homegrown, straight up old school roots country and bluegrass that will keep you dancing all night. And... they are lovely humans too!"
- Shara Gustafson, Robson Valley Music Festival.
